I replayed this phrase in my mind as I finalized my divorce from my abusive, alcoholic husband and worked multiple jobs to support my three growing sons. Being a survivor of childhood sexual assault, I was profoundly broken yet entirely and solely responsible for the rearing of my young men. What did I know about how to raise these boys to be strong, healthy, and whole?
In my quest to break the generational cycle of poverty and abuse, I knew that despite being a self-titled Maker of Terrible Life Choices I could use what tools I had, a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from Yale University, a job at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and my incredible work ethic, to choose a better life for my boys.
I am passionate about issues related to parenting through trauma, surviving abuse and sexual assault, and building resilience to thrive in the world.
